In Fake news, cults, crime and celebrity: Intro to Criminology and Digital Media, we focus on Criminology and Arts disciplines, with a particular focus on digital media and demonstrate how researching media reveals contemporary issues. In this module you will really hone your research and writing skills, as you are introduced to ‘criminology and arts’ style ideas. You will use their growing critical thinking skills to dive into the world of media and crime. You will be guided through how media is produced, develop media literacy and unpack the role that criminologists play in revealing and reporting digital crimes. Finally, we explore how social media and online activism has been utilised for reporting and responding to crime, especially in relation to celebrities. Through this exploration of criminology and media disciplines you will develop research skills and lift your essay writing to the next level ready for undergraduate studies.
