Communicate current pain science to facilitate behaviour change in patients and improve the likelihood of a successful rehabilitation program.
Establish the terminology and principles specific to physiological therapeutics and physical modalities, including thermal, acoustic, electrical, light, and mechanical modalities.
Safely and effectively apply the modality best suited for presenting patients complaint and justify the choice from an evidence-based framework.
Create and evaluate a rehabilitation plan (including assessment, design, application, monitoring / modification and communication) which is in accord with the biopsychosocial model for a person with a musculoskeletal diagnosis of the shoulder, hip, elbow, knee, wrist/hand or ankle.
Evaluate various upper and/or lower limb presentations for when a case is outside their scope of practice and know when to refer for co-management, a second opinion or further specialist help.

This secondary rehabilitation unit follows on from CHI448 and is designed to progress a students ability to understand the BioPsychoSocial approach of patient centred care. It begins with a review of the current understanding of tendinopathy. After a review of the contemporary models of rehabilitation, students will work through each region of the upper and lower limb and apply these concepts. This is scaffolded with the acquisition of common physical therapeutic modalities including extracorporeal shock wave therapy,TENS, motor stimulation, interferential, hot/cold therapy, ultrasound, and low-level laser therapy.
