Learning outcomes

1.

Provide a rationale for the provision of quality HPE programs in schools and clearly articulate the principles underlying the HPE curriculum described in the WA SCASA Curriculum.

2.

Prepare a HPE teaching program and effectively evaluate HPE lessons.

3.

Establish and discuss teaching/learning approaches used by HPE teachers.

4.

Describe the emerging trends and initiatives being explored by HPE professionals in their approaches to implementing the ‘contemporary’ HPE curriculum.

5.

Assess and monitor the various factors that contribute or inhibit the achievement of HPE curriculum outcomes.

6.

Design assessment tasks to evaluate student achievements in HPE.

7.

Evaluate teaching resources that are currently used to support HPE teaching/learning programs.

Unit content:

This unit will focus on the following aspects of teaching HPE in schools: * Influences on contemporary HPE curriculum * Developing quality HPE 7-10 programs * Contemporary models of HPE teaching/learning * The role(s) of the HPE teacher in schools * Implementation of HPE programs  * HPE lesson planning * Assessing HPE outcomes * HPE resources * Identifying and meeting individual learning needs * Professionalism in HPE.
