Additional information

Unit content:The concept of sustainable development has generated a significant volume of tourism research and its application to tourism development and planning has resulted in a major new focus for tourism studies. Sustainable Development (SD) provides the underlying concepts upon which the Tourism Programme at Murdoch University is based, and is the basis upon which many events and tourism units are constructed. Sustainable Tourism (ST) is a values?based concept dependent on personal beliefs, ethics and value systems. Given that any definition of ST must be regarded as having a particular value?based input, there is a move away from the search for a single definition toward a broad philosophical understanding that, in our world of finite resources, all forms of development must move towards greater sustainability.
