Appraise how ECEC programmes can support and assess the learning, development and care of children aged birth- two years.
Determine the roles of leadership in an Early Learning and Development Centre in relation to professional ethics and responsibilities, also the development of educator’s professional identity
Report on the use verbal and non-verbal communication strategies to guide behaviour and provide feedback to support children's participation in learning experiences suitable for young children
Validate the involvement of parents/carers in the educative and caring process
Explain how constructive feedback from mentors can improve teaching and care practices

The unit covers the following content:
1. Developmentally appropriate early child education curriculum
2. Legislative requirements and standards for educating and caring for a child attending an Australian Early Learning and Development Centre (Long Day-care Centre)
3. Assessment strategies, including informal and formal, diagnostic, formative and summative approaches to supporting, monitoring and evaluating young children's learning and development.
4. ACECQA curriculum requirements.
Prior to placement in any Early Learning Development Centre (Long Day-care Centre) for Professional Experience, it is mandatory that pre-service teachers complete or obtain several forms and clearances. Information and forms regarding these mandatory requirements can be accessed via the Professional Experience website: http://www.murdoch.edu.au/School-of-Education/Professional-Experience Completion and submission of these mandatory requirements is essential before placements can be arranged.
