Setting the Scene: Concept and purpose of ICUN Protected Areas (PAs).  Principles of Protected Area Management (PAM): Planning and establishing PAs. Governance and management of PAs (including Management Plans and Key Performance Indicators). Assessing PAM Effectiveness (PAME). Specific aspects of PAM: Valuing PAs. Threats to PAs. Challenges and contentious issues in PAM. Landscape connection and conservation. Working with communities. World Heritage sites.
