Unit content:
The unit is organised into four main blocks: 1. Forensic Basics – Scene of Crime, collection and recording of evidence, presentation of evidence 2. Chemical Evidence – instrumental and spot testing for chemical analysis, examples of how chemical evidence is processed and utilised 3. Biological Evidence – broad introduction to how biology based disciplines such as genetics, toxicology, pathology, and environmental science are applied in a forensics context 4. Physical Evidence – detection, collection, and analysis of evidence associated with prints, fibres, hairs, paints, & glass, introduction to concepts of microscopy and typing of evidence.
