Learning outcomes

Demonstrate knowledge of animal breeding, genetics, growth, development, behaviour and health in the management of livestock
2.

Critically review, consolidate and synthesise knowledge to integrate basic mechanistic concepts underlying various applied animal management scenarios.

3.

Apply knowledge to solve problems related to sustainable food and fibre production using animal management tools. 

4.

Work independently to research and critically review information from peer reviewed literature 

5.

Effectively articulate agricultural science concepts in the form of individual viva voce (oral) examinations.

Unit content:

The unit allows students to choose their own topics of interest from a list of modules or Study Guides. Students can select up to 3 modules from the following: New animal industries; Sheep genetics and breeding; Applied breeding and genetics; Beef breeding management; Equine breeding management; Molecular meat gastronomy; Applied animal reproduction; Applied animal endocrinology; Reproductive endocrinology; and Artificial insemination and embryo transfer.
