2.

Apply this knowledge to solve and manage problems related to the care and management of livestock, including in the context promoting animal health, welfare and production in the context of sustainable food and fibre production

3.

Demonstrate proficiency in anatomical recognition of the important tissues and organ systems of the major livestock species, including dissection and basic necropsy (post-mortem exam) techniques

4.

Additional information

Unit content:

The unit emphasises the interaction between the physiology of farm animals and their underlying anatomy, and how these impact the care and management of livestock. It covers the major organ systems; emphasising the functional anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, adrenal, digestive, and reproductive systems. Practical classes develop skills in post-mortem examination of livestock. The basic skills of data analysis and scientific communication will also be introduced.
