Students who have achieved a final scaled score of 55% or more in ATAR Mathematics Specialist, WACE Mathematics Specialist 3C/3D or TEE Calculus may not enrol in this unit.

Learning outcomes

1.

Acquire an understanding of basic concepts in relation to algebra, matrices, inequalities and functions

2.

Solve systems of linear equations using a variety of methods

3.

Use trigonometric relationships to model periodic behaviour, and exponential and logarithmic functions to model growth and decay

4.

Determine derivatives from first principles and using derivative rules, calculate integrals of simple functions

5.

Determine asymptotes and limits of functions, and use derivatives to identify critical points of a function

6.

Identify suitable methods to solve a given mathematical problem, and communicate the problem, the method and the solution in clear terms
