Learning outcomes

Unit content:

Introduction to unit and students: unit structure and AIMS, assessment requirements, materials, agreement, personal history.

Topic One: History of International Education & International Baccalaureate. Timeline of IE and IB. Key players, key events, key initiatives and key attributes. Intro to IB Continuum. Contextualisation of international education.

Topic Two: Globalisation and Internationalisation

Definitions, issues and implications. Review of literature – structured overviews – review of policies in different countries. Global, national, regional, local contexts (compare and contrast)

Topic Three: International Education, Schools, Teachers and Students

Thoughts and perspectives. Changing face and identity of international ed and schools. Third Culture Kids etc. Self assess against IB Learner profile and questionnaire.

Topic Four: International Curriculums, Organisations, Associations, Networks

Conceptualisation of IE - similarities and differences, Website analysis of international curricula & support organisations.

Topic Five: International Baccalaureate – Programs and Resources
