Unit content:

This unit provides an introduction to how psychologists conduct research in order to answer psychological questions. You will explore some basic approaches to research design and analysis, and epistemological issues that influence research. The unit covers the following issues:

·The concepts of causality, reality and mind

· The goals of science

· History of psychological science

· Introduction to psychological inquiry

· Research questions and types of research

·Introduction to psychological measurement

· Descriptive statistics

·Graphical methods to visualise data

· Principles of statistical inference

· Frequency and theoretical distributions

· Correlational design

· Experimental design

· Writing up research

· Research Ethics
