Additional information

Unit content:

The unit addresses two main ideas: firstly, that education practices are built on theories. More and more teachers engage in research into what goes on in their own classrooms and schools. You will discover that the practice of teaching develops from a range of theories about how learning takes place; about how people interact and about how systems work. Secondly, that education is multi-disciplinary. You will learn that the study of education touches on a range of disciplines including philosophy, sociology, history, politics and psychology. The focus of the unit is on developing the skills and understanding you will need to study successfully in the discipline of Education. These skills are: -Communicating well in writing - Reading critically - Communicating with others by participating in tutorial and online discussions - Developing information literacy skills - Reading, interpreting and making judgements from statistical data Ideas and questions related to teaching and learning are used as vehicles for learning, consolidating and practising these skills.
