Learning outcomes
1.
Understand basic theoretical concepts and themes in the study of travel and tourism, especially from a social science perspective.
2.
Apply concepts from tourism to one or more specific and current situations: to your own experience of tourism or being a tourist; and to an understanding of the ‘host’ experience, what it is like to live in a tourist destination area.
3.
Understand the travel experience and what it means to be a tourist in a historical context.
4.
Have an overview of the contemporary situation with regard to travel and tourism in the Global context.
5.
Practice the ‘sociological imagination’ and question the ‘taken-for- granted’, to view the social, including especially tourism, not as a given but as a problematic, not as a ‘problem’ but as a puzzle.
