Learning outcomes

1.

The fundamentals of computer systems and how they underpin the IT infrastructures supporting enterprise processes;

2.

A computer systems functional components, their characteristics, performance, and interactions and be able to use them in information technology;

3.

The use of the mathematical computer package MATLAB to perform basic mathematical procedures and to solve problems in the general area of discrete mathematics;

4.

Planning, developing and managing personal career aspirations and goals and using tools to effectively showcase capabilities;

5.

The various oral and written skills necessary to communicate effectively in English in an academic and workplace context;

6.

The basic concepts of constructing an algorithmic solution to a problem and implementing this in a programming language to facilitate execution on a computer;

7.

The information systems discipline and the role of information systems in contemporary life, as well as how information systems are organised, designed and built;

8.

Operating systems and servers, and their philosophical differences sufficient to make choices and recommendations;

9.

The types and characteristics of server based infrastructure and applications and how they can be effectively deployed and managed;

10.

Information, technological and numerical literacy in the context of academic study and professional practice.
