Additional information

Unit content:aining ecological literacy is important in conservation biology, in particular the ability to identify plants and animals and to be able to recognise the threatening processes that impact biodiversity. Using examples from across Australia and, in particular, the SW corner of Western Australia, Australian Biodiversity will focus on the principals of taxonomy and systematics of both plants and animals as well as their adaptations, values and threats. Recognised as a global biodiversity hotspot, the SW corner of WA provides a unique opportunity to learn about its diverse and fragile nature and to gain skills of identification and documentation. A major theme of this unit is an understanding of the importance of preserving biodiversity and the shared responsibility of all stakeholders to conserve it.
