Learning outcomes
1.
Mastery of Japanese grammatical forms including transitive/intransitive verbs, imperative forms, passive forms, causative forms, and conditional expressions, therefore almost completing coverage of the fundamentals of Japanese grammar.
2.
Expanded knowledge of kanji and vocabulary, moving towards the intermediate level.
3.
Familiarity with current issues surrounding Japanese university students and in Japanese society in general.
4.
Ability to express their opinions on those issues in Japanese, in speech and in writing.

Additional information
Unit content:The unit will introduce a more advanced part of the basic grammar of the Japanese language, such as transitive/intransitive verbs, imperative forms, passive forms, causative forms, and conditional expressions, so that students will almost complete the fundamentals of Japanese grammar by the end of the semester. (Honorific expressions to be introduced in Japanese 6 to 8 are excluded.) The unit is also aimed at further developing students’ knowledge in kanji and vocabulary, moving towards the intermediate level. Through reading the textbook and others, students will familiarize themselves with current issues surrounding Japanese university students and in Japanese society in general. The unit will provide students with training in expressing their opinions on those issues in speech and in writing.
