Learning outcomes

1.

Organise and incorporate relevant elements from multiple SCSA documents, including senior secondary science curricula, both ATAR and General into secondary science teaching programs.

2.

Prioritise adjustments to maximise effect of differentiated learning environment whilst maintaining high standard of science learning activities.

3.

Synthesise science programs, assessments and comprehensive lesson plans incorporating safety, individual student needs, prior learning, ICT and laboratory equipment availability.

4.

Identify factors - international, national, humanitarian and social - that contribute to the development of legislation, policy and practice in laboratory settings and apply these to secondary science programs.

5.

Utilise professional agencies that support high quality teaching (eg STAWA) in regards to development of teaching materials and identifying future professional development.

6.

Compare moderation of (fictional) high school student assessments with other professionals to arrive at comparable judgements and develop adequate student and parent feedback.

Unit content:
  1. The Western Australian SCSA Year 11-12 science syllabi and support materials (Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Science, Human Biology, Physics) for ATAR and General courses. Rationale, aims, organisation, unit descriptions, learning outcomes, unit content, school-based grading systems and ATAR examination protocols.
  2. Western Australian SCSA Year 11-12 science syllabi planning and implementation.
  3. Western Australian SCSA Year 11-12 science syllabi assessment planning and implementation.
  4. Classroom management.
  5. Safety and health for science teachers.
  6. Reflective practice.
  7. Skills for educational research.
Other notes:

Curriculum Teaching Area 2 in Science requires a minimum of two units (six points) at Part I-Level and at least two units (6 points) at Part II-Level from the Science Major.
