Learning outcomes

1.

Demonstrate substantive knowledge of a broad range of texts – literary, public, performative – from the Renaissance to the present day.

2.

Identify how texts function aesthetically, socially and politically in everyday life and as culturally-specific forms of creative and professional writing, literature and performance.

3.

Critically evaluate the use by diverse authors of formal elements of language and genre in texts.

4.

Plan and manage self-directed research projects of increasing sophistication that evaluate analytical, persuasive and creative texts in a range of genres and styles.

5.

Recognise and demonstrate practices of ethical and effective discourse on complex or controversial subjects or texts in a reasoned and respectful manner.

6.

Create well-constructed, clear and persuasive texts and oral communications in a variety of genres, modes and styles.
