Overview

This course is designed for qualified primary teachers who wish to make early childhood education one of their recognised specialisations. It specifically addresses the early childhood years Kindergarten to Pre-Primary (children aged 4-5 years).

Learning outcomes

1.
Demonstrate understandings of contemporary theoretical perspectives on how young children learn and develop which includes the study of play as a medium for creativity, investigation and thinking
2.
Develop practical skills and competency in planning and preparing a provocation based on children's interests and apply integrated approaches to curriculum planning in early childhood contexts using appropriate curriculum documents
3.
Identify desirable characteristics of an early years learning environment and critical reflect upon a range of educational activities that build young children's respect and awareness towards the environment
4.
Apply knowledge of standards in the Australian National Quality Framework to early years settings and implement a leadership project in an early childhood context
